While many star gazers rely on the use of a telescope to view the stars, it is fully possible to view stars with a quality set of binoculars. In fact, the use of binoculars offers the star gazer some advantages that the telescope cannot offer. For one thing, investing in a pair of quality binoculars is sometimes cheaper then buying a telescope. Thus, beginners in star gazing and astronomy can view stars with binoculars until they can afford to invest in more costly equipment. Additionally, since binoculars are small and lightweight they can be used pretty much anywhere: the star gazer doesn’t have to worry about lugging around the heavy equipment and accessories that accompany the use of a telescope.
Binoculars are accessible anytime: they can be kept in a glove box or another compartment in a car, and some binoculars are small enough to carry around in a handbag. All a star gazer has to do is pull out the binoculars and they are ready to view the skies. In contrast, a telescope requires transport and set up, which can take a considerable amount of time. Further, for those individuals not entirely accustom to setting up and using a telescope, it is sometimes difficult to locate objects in the sky. The viewing field of telescopes is significantly small—the user of a telescope must locate objects in the sky with considerable accuracy. Yet, with binoculars the star gazer can immediately look at what they want to see with little difficulty. |
