Uses and Legalities of Fax Broadcasting Print E-mail
Monday, 25 December 2006
Many people understand what fax broadcasting is.  Fax broadcasting is the ability to send a single fax to more than one destination.  The innovative design of fax broadcasting as opposed to regular fax systems is that the fax sent through specific fax broadcasting systems is sent to the multiple destinations all at once.  This works to save an individual or company a great deal of time and effort.  However, some people may not know the uses of fax broadcasting systems or what types of documents can benefit from being sent through fax broadcasting channels.

There are a number of people and companies that can benefit from using fax broadcasting systems in their daily routines.  Some of the documents which often need to be sent out to a number of people as quickly as possible by fax include newsletters, daily specials from restaurants, press releases, important community information bulletins, alerts of various kinds, price updates and sales from businesses, and other various types of information.  All of these documents are produced by a group or individual.  Sometimes, the documents that these individuals created need to be sent to hundreds of individuals or more on a specific date.  In order to meet deadlines with less stress, some people have tried implementing fax broadcasting systems into their routines.  Not only does fax broadcasting save the individuals’ time, but it also works to help the individuals and employees become more efficient and effective at work.  Fax broadcasting is an extremely powerful tool and is useful to those who know how to use it.

The Legalities of Fax Broadcasting

Even though fax broadcasting is a great marketing tool, this does not mean that a company has free reign to send unsolicited faxes out into the world with no regard for the recipients.  Within the United States of America, prior to July of 2005 it was illegal for companies to send fax broadcasting advertisements to recipients who did not specifically request to receive the fax.  However, eventually the Federal government did allow the sending of fax broadcasting regarding unsolicited materials with no interference from the federal government itself.  Despite this seeming win for companies looking for new consumers, there were a number of stipulations put on the use of fax broadcasting.

Now, it is required that all companies that send out unsolicited fax broadcasting advertisements put clearly and plainly on the fax how the individual or business can be removed from the fax broadcasting recipient list.  In addition, it must be free for the individual or company to be removed from the distributor’s fax broadcasting list.  Even so, there are still some areas in which there are laws that have been previously put in effect by the state which may work to override this federal ruling.  As a result, it is extremely important for the companies that use fax broadcasting as a means of unsolicited advertisement to investigate the specific laws in their area.  Despite the fact that Federal law mandates that fax broadcasting of all types is legal, there are still some areas in which a person can be prosecuted for sending out unsolicited fax advertisements.

Why Use Fax Broadcasting

With so many other channels of opportunity open to sending information, one may wonder what makes fax broadcasting so special.  When examined, it is clear to see that compared to other methods of communication, fax broadcasting offers a number of benefits that extend far beyond those available by sending out emails or letters.  If a person or company needs to send out one specific document, or a grouping of documents, to a number of different recipients, not only can it be faster and more time efficient to use fax broadcasting, but there are other advantages available as well.

In a number of ways, fax broadcasting is much cheaper than sending out addressed and stamped envelopes.  Not only can it cost much less to perform fax broadcasting as opposed to the mailing costs that come with sending out mailings, but there are fewer supplies involved as well.  Since fewer supplies are needed in fax broadcasting, as compared to physical mailings, a company does not need to purchase stamps, envelopes or seemingly endless amounts of paper.  Additionally, the company will not need to pay for one or more employees to sit and address the envelopes.  Fax broadcasting then frees up the employees’ work time, so that they can focus on more pressing matters.

Compared to email, fax broadcasting is much more accurate the majority of the time because distributors need to print out and review the copy before they fax it.  Although it is not generally a good practice, many individuals, when sending email correspondences, will not check the document as thoroughly as they should.  Sometimes, this is just because they have been staring at a computer all day and their eyes get tired.  The nature of fax broadcasting is more allowing of a person to print out and review the document before sending it.  Reviewing a paper document prior to fax broadcasting gives the distributor a break from the computer screen.  This is especially true if the fax broadcasting is occurring through a physical fax machine as opposed to internet fax broadcasting.
